about
The ‘about me’ page is probably the most worthless part of any personal website. Not only does it usually read like a personal ad, it’s the most generic part of any website – no one cares about how tall you are or if your eyes are blue. If anyone cared – and if you cared if anyone cared – you’d have a shitty myspace, complete with a picture of yourself that’s so zoomed in on your face that no one can tell what you look like.
As lame as it is, it seems strangely obligatory; since I’m pretty accustomed to being lame, I guess it’s not too much of a problem.
My name is Rafael. I am six foot two, with blue eyes and sandy brown hair. My favorite color is purple, and I like meaningful conversation, long walks on the beach at dusk and sad, sad songs.
In all reality, I’m a geek, a music lover, frequently a sarcastic asshole, and odds are pretty good that I would enjoy a night at home just as much as a moonlit shoreline stroll.
For forty to fifty hours a week, I am a financial analyst and report designer for the accounting department at a local nonprofit. I have a degree in IS, and while I don’t have a job that is in the IS field, the report designing aspect of what I do utilizes my limited technical skills more than I ever thought it would.
When I’m not working, I’m generally wasting time. There’s a short list of websites and message boards that I read pretty regularly, although I tend to lurk more than participate. While I’m not the hardcore gamer that I could be, I do like and play my fair share of games. To complete the geek trifecta, I’m also a techie. Computers and websites and lines of code kind of stuff. Finally, if I’m at home, there’s almost always music of some sort on and there’s a guitar within reach. Admittedly, while I play, I’m more of a hobbyist than a musician.
Hey, we can’t all be rockstars, right?
