i want to run away and join the office

‘i’m tired of elephants and clowns / i want to run away and join the office’

that’s a cool ass line from Mike Doughty’s ‘American Car.’

although, in all fairness, MD’s new CD, Haughty Melodic, is pretty fantastic and full of subtle lyrical greatness all around. overall, i dig the cd alot. Mike went a little more glossy/pop on this record… it’s got a solid rock sound, and it’s full of Mike’s typical lyrical moments of brilliance.

ANYWAY. enough about that.

so I’m back from my several month sabbatacle. i wasn’t really planning on not posting anything for that long, it just kind of happened. it was one of those deals where i had plenty to say but didn’t really have the time or motivation to sit down and say it.

i’ve been fairly busy the last few weeks. memorial day weekend i worked a day and then did the usual memorial day stuff. the next week i went to a wedding with laura in rural missouri (interstate travel – we went from missouri to missourah), and then the next week went to indiana for DMB. when everything is said and done, i think i worked one full week the entire month of june.

and i must say – whether or not you are a dmb fan or you like stand up, the shows this year have been great. 6.1, 6.12, and 6.13 all rank damn near the top of the pile of dmb shows that i’ve seen. robert randolph guested on 6.13, and it was the highest energy i’ve ever seen. it was unreal. it’s just unfortunate that there doesn’t appear to be any kind of video from the shows. you might not like the sets they’re playing, but there’s no denying that the band has never played like this before.

oh, and lauren lavoie: if you still read my site, i’ve emailed you twice now – do you not have time to reply, or is my email being filtered out by a spamfilter? personally, i think it might be microsoft playing big brother, but that’s just me… ;)

i’ve got to vent about people and work and life in general, and i feel like a slacker for not posting as much as i should be/would like to be, so hopefully i’ll find my way back here again soon…
