dont mess with texas
this weekend was the long-awaited john & shayna wedding in beautiful irving texas. needless to say, it was a blast, and the group of us there made it quite the experience. here’s the play-by-play…
friday:
me and laura flew into dallas and met up with james, eric, elise, alison, and john. we checked into the hotel, and met up with esther (and eventually gina, marika, and alison). after giving esther lani’s present, me, laura, eric, james, and esther went walking around to try and find some food and, more importantly, beer.
at the ‘tom thumb’ store (which most of you know as ’safeway’), we met with our first disappointment of the weekend – irving, tx is a dry county. no beer. anywhere. so we went back to the hotel to kill time until about 9:00 when we were supposed to meet up at a bar called ‘humperdinks.’
we caught the shuttle to humperdinks and found out that not only could we finally drink, but friday night is karaoke night at this bar. needless to say, this is digitally preserved to haunt all of us for the rest of our lives. here’s what i can remember from karaoke night:
i did it (james/eric/laura/esther), thriller (alison/marika?), stay (all the girls), white wedding (scott, eric, james), the joker (james), going the distance (eric), that annoying meatloaf song (eric/laura), some song from grease (eric/laura), paradise city (scott/james/eric/me), and living on a prayer (almost everyone). i’m pretty sure that paradise city, white wedding, and livin on a prayer drove everyone but us out of the bar. me and james air guitaring livin on a prayer, james and eric headbanging paradise city, and james/gina’s dance during thriller were especially notable moments. dont worry, video clips soon to come.
after all of that, we caught a cab back to the hotel, and after arguing with the cabby about which way to go, some of us went to bed, while others danced outside with their pants on their head.
i think that’s probably enough for now. i’ll save saturday’s activities for another time.
