now that it’s been a month…

…i guess i’ll start posting again. i really had this wild idea that i’d post some kind of update, no matter how stupid, every day. lately it seems that i’m lucky if i pull once a month. anyhow, here’s whats up with me.

the holidays
———–
christmas was cool… i came out of it looking pretty good. i wound up getting my digital camera (kodak cx4300 3.2mp,) a 61 key full-sized keyboard/synth, a 10-pack of beers of the world, a $40 gift card to sam goody, and a nice ass office chair. i bought a ps1 with the gift card. turns out that kelly wound up working in my favor on this one – mom let her go buy the clothes she wanted for christmas. she wound up buying so much that my parents went and bought me a bunch of shit to balance it out.

anyhow, we started off going to my grandma’s house (on my mom’s side). it was weird having my mom’s entire family together again, the 23rd being a year since grandpa died and all. this is where i was personally at a year ago, and while i’m not there anymore, i know that a lot of my family members are. my cousin becky brought her baby on christmas day, and that was really the only thing that put anyone in the holiday spirit.

then we went to my dad’s parents. nothing too exciting there, we sat around and bullshat for a while, but that’s about it. my brother steve brought his girlfriend (fiance?) and her son (that he is adopting.) once again, the kids were the highlight, with little dominic attracting all the attention.

about those last two, dominic spent a lot of the day on the floor looking through the kitty door that my grandpa cut into the door to the basement.

school already?!?!
—————–
school time already… crap. so, i was really worried about this schedule… it was looking like i was going to have the two most difficult classes of my college career this semester, leaving two global awareness classes and a natural science for next semester… thankfully, i made it work. originally, i had legal environment of business, marketing, personal finance, and information systems analysis and design.

thank god, i dropped legal environment and picked up middle eastern politics (which counts as a global awareness.) that’ll make life much easier – legal environment consists of multiple choice tests, and the teacher takes points away for wrong answers (rather than just not assigning the points for the question.) so, it’s entirely possible to get a negative score. that’s CRAP.

so, i bought a new pet with my christmas money. dog? cat? mice? hamster? no… i bought a hedgehog. he’s a cool little dude – he gets a little huffy if i wake him up from a nap, but now that i’ve had him for about a week he’s really becoming quite social.

so, now you’re probably asking, why a hedgehog? i don’t have an answer, really. my parents were always weird about me getting pets. i was going to get a mouse a while back and ma and pa jenkins didn’t like that idea. so on new years day, me and laura were looking at some pet stuff on the internet, and we saw some hedgehog pictures. i was joking with my dad about getting a hedgehog, and he actually started asking questions like he was interested (rather than just laughing at me.)

a while later, my dad comes up to me and says “go talk to your mother.” i go in mom’s room, and she’s in bed half asleep.

mom: will it stink?
jenks: huh?
m: the hedgehog. will it stink?
j: no.
m: will it make a mess?
j: no.
m: is it going to run wild through the house?
j: no.
m: good. get your hedgehog and let me go back to bed.

so, i went out to a hedgehog breedery in the county and bought ’spike.’ original name, right? right.

meet spike.
curled up in a ball.
spike flailing about on his back
spike looking at the camera.
spike tubing.
tubing, by the way, is a hedgehog sport. they are curious little things, and will try to explore anything and everything they can. so, if they stumble on a tube (about the size of a cardboard tube from a roll of toilet paper or paper towles) they will instinctively shove their little heads in it and run around like idiots for a few minutes, and then take off the tube and walk away.

anyhow, i think that’s enough from me. expect a lot of these pictures (plus the rest that i haven’t posted) to go up in the galleries section sooner or later.
